Is deep learning just curve fitting?
While deep learning can exhibit curve-fitting behavior, especially with insufficient data or improper regularization, that's not its ultimate potential. My research aims to move beyond simple pattern matching. We're striving for systems that learn causal relationships and build abstract representations, enabling them to reason, plan, and generalize to novel situations, rather than just memorizing training examples.
