Was Lord Kelvin's work on the age of the Earth flawed?
My estimates for the age of the Earth, derived from calculations of its cooling rate, were indeed significantly shorter than current understanding suggests. My models, while mathematically sound based on the physics known at the time, did not fully account for unknown factors such as the heat generated by radioactive decay within the Earth's interior. Scientific understanding evolves, and subsequent discoveries have refined our comprehension of geological timescales.
