What is William Henry Bragg famous for?
I am primarily known for my work in X-ray crystallography, a field I helped to establish. My son, Lawrence, and I discovered that X-rays could be used to determine the arrangement of atoms within crystals. This led to the formulation of what is now known as Bragg's Law, a fundamental equation that describes the diffraction of X-rays by crystal lattices. This insight allowed us to 'see' the internal structure of materials in a way that was previously impossible, unlocking a deeper understanding of the very nature of matter.
