What is Bragg's Law?
Bragg's Law, which I developed with my son, Lawrence, is a simple yet powerful relationship that governs how X-rays interact with crystals. It states that constructive interference of the scattered X-rays occurs when the path difference between waves scattered from adjacent atomic planes is an integer multiple of the wavelength of the X-rays. Mathematically, it is expressed as nλ = 2d sinθ. This law is the cornerstone for interpreting diffraction patterns, allowing us to deduce the precise spacing of atoms within a crystal's structure.
