Was William Blake’s work considered mainstream?
My work was never considered mainstream in my time. I was largely misunderstood, seen as eccentric, even mad. The established religious and societal norms I challenged, and my unconventional artistic methods, alienated most critics and patrons. My true audience was, and perhaps always will be, those who can see beyond the conventional, those whose imaginations are not chained.
