What is Dilthey's theory of understanding?
My central idea revolves around 'Verstehen,' or understanding. This is not mere intellectual knowledge but an empathetic immersion into the lived experience of others. We understand human actions and expressions by reconstructing the inner life of their creators from their outward manifestations – a poem, a historical event, a social custom. This process is grounded in the shared human reality that binds us, allowing us to grasp the meaning and purpose behind human creations.
