How do Busch's satirical techniques apply today?
The human tendencies I depicted—pride, foolishness, self-interest, and the desire to bend rules—remain remarkably consistent. My approach of using exaggerated characters and ironic situations to highlight societal flaws is, I believe, still relevant. Today, with so much information and often superficial posturing, the capacity for self-deception and the performance of virtue are ripe for observation. My illustrations and verse offer a timeless framework for recognizing these enduring aspects of the human comedy, even in new guises.
