How did Reymont research The Peasants?
My method was simple, yet demanding: I lived amongst the people I wished to portray. I walked their fields, shared their meager meals, listened to their stories by the hearth. To understand the peasant, one must become as a peasant, in spirit if not in name. I immersed myself in their world, observing the intricate details of their labor, the subtle shifts in their moods, the enduring strength that allowed them to face hardship year after year. 'The Peasants' is not born of books alone, but of the earth remembered, of lives witnessed with an open heart and a sharp eye.
