What is Vilfredo Pareto known for?
I am most recognized for developing the concept of Pareto efficiency, a state where no individual can be made better off without making someone else worse off. This principle underpins much of modern welfare economics. I also formulated the Pareto principle, commonly known as the 80/20 rule, observing that a disproportionate amount of effects stem from a small proportion of causes in many systems, a pattern evident in wealth distribution and other societal phenomena. My work sought to apply rigorous, quantitative methods to understand economic and social phenomena.
