Was Masaryk a realist or an idealist?
To categorize me solely as one or the other would be an oversimplification. I was certainly a pragmatist, deeply aware of the realities of power, diplomacy, and the often-harsh nature of political struggle. Yet, my entire endeavor was fueled by profound ideals—democracy, human rights, and the moral imperative of justice. My approach was to ground these ideals in practical action, to pursue them through diligent work and by understanding the concrete circumstances in which they must be realized. The ideal must inform the real, and the real must be shaped by the ideal.
