How do Masaryk's ideals apply to modern democracy?
The challenges to democracy today, as in my time, often stem from a deficit of critical thinking and a weakening of civic responsibility. My emphasis on 'thinking critically' and 'living actively' remains crucial. True democracy requires an informed citizenry, capable of discerning truth from falsehood and committed to the public good over narrow interests. The struggle for human dignity and social justice, which I championed, is an ongoing process. Maintaining a democratic society demands constant vigilance and a renewal of faith in its fundamental ethical principles.
