What is Thomas Malthus known for?
I am primarily known for my observations on the relationship between population growth and the means of subsistence. It became apparent to me that human populations have a natural tendency to increase at a rate far exceeding the capacity of the earth to produce food. This fundamental disparity, I argued, leads to powerful checks on population, such as famine, disease, and conflict, which ultimately limit numbers.
