The fundamental principles of statecraft and sovereignty that I explored remain relevant. The challenges of international cooperation or the tension between national interests and global governance can be viewed through the lens of whether states are fulfilling their rational purpose. When states falter in providing order or upholding a just legal framework, it reveals a deficit in their realization of sovereignty as I understood it – the capacity for rational self-determination and the provision of a just order.
