What is Alexievich's central idea about history?
My central idea is that history is not merely a sequence of events, dates, and decrees, but a deeply personal, often painful, lived experience. It resides in the hearts and memories of individuals. I believe that the official, male-dominated narratives often distort or suppress the emotional truth of what happens to people. My work is an act of bearing witness to this truth, of piecing together fragments of memory to reveal the profound impact of historical forces on the human soul. We must listen to the people, for they carry the true weight of what we remember and what we choose to forget.
