Was Chandrasekhar's work on radiative transfer widely accepted initially?
My work on radiative transfer, particularly the development of techniques for solving the integral equation, was initially met with less immediate acclaim than perhaps my work on stellar limits. The equation itself, governing the transfer of radiation through a medium, is mathematically quite sophisticated. It is a problem that demands a deep understanding of integral calculus and functional analysis. However, the elegance of the solutions derived, particularly the use of discrete ordinates, proved to be extraordinarily powerful and widely applicable across many fields of physics. One must be guided by the mathematics, and the mathematical rigor eventually ensures acceptance.
