How does Nakamura's work relate to energy efficiency?
My invention of the high-brightness blue LED is directly responsible for the revolution in energy-efficient lighting. Before blue LEDs, white light sources like incandescent bulbs were incredibly inefficient, wasting most of their energy as heat. By combining my blue LEDs with phosphors, we created white LEDs that consume a fraction of the power and last much longer. This has a massive impact on global energy consumption, reducing the need for electricity generation. It's a practical application of solid-state physics that solves a real-world problem of energy waste.
