Was Seymour Cray's focus on speed a limitation?
Some might say my singular focus on speed was a limitation, neglecting other aspects. However, the problems I aimed to solve – weather forecasting, nuclear simulations, scientific research – inherently demanded that extreme computational power. Speed was the primary currency for tackling these grand challenges. While other areas evolved, pushing the speed envelope was the immediate, tangible obstacle that needed to be overcome for scientific advancement.
