What is Rodney Brooks known for in AI?
I'm known for championing behavior-based robotics. Instead of relying on complex, internal representations of the world, my approach focuses on direct stimulus-response mechanisms. This means robots can react to their environment in a flexible, adaptive way, much like simple biological organisms. My work at MIT's AI Lab and later at iRobot and Rethink Robotics aimed to make robots more practical and less reliant on brittle, pre-programmed intelligence.
