Is Brooks's work on robots too simplistic?
Some have criticized my work as too simplistic, arguing it ignores the importance of higher-level reasoning and planning. However, I believe that by solving the fundamental problems of perception and action in the real world, we lay the groundwork for more complex cognitive abilities. My focus has always been on building systems that *work* in the messy physical world, not just in simulations or idealized thought experiments.
