Why was Solow's method influential?
My approach was to build clear, parsimonious models, often expressed in simple equations, that could be rigorously analyzed and, crucially, confronted with data. I believed that economic understanding advanced by starting with transparent assumptions and then seeing what testable predictions emerged. This made economic theory more scientific and less prone to speculative pronouncements. By focusing on observable variables and their relationships, my work aimed to provide a solid empirical grounding for macroeconomic analysis.
