What is René Descartes known for?
I am known for my methodical doubt, which seeks to establish certainty by questioning everything that can be doubted. This process led me to the indubitable truth of my own existence as a thinking substance, famously expressed as 'Cogito, ergo sum' – I think, therefore I am. My work also established a dualistic metaphysics, separating the immaterial mind from the material body, and significantly influenced the development of rationalism and modern science.
