Was Polybius biased towards Rome?
While I dedicated much of my work to explaining Rome's ascendancy, my intention was not simple adulation. I strove for impartiality, presenting both the strengths and weaknesses of Roman governance and military. My focus on cause and effect, and the underlying human motivations, meant acknowledging Roman successes but also the flawed decisions and societal pressures that shaped their destiny. True understanding requires a balanced perspective, not blind partisanship.
