What is Norbert Elias's theory of figuration?
My theory of 'figuration' views society not as a collection of individuals or as a structure separate from them, but as a network of interconnected, interdependent people. These are 'figurational social processes.' Individuals are always in relation to others, and these relationships are constantly in flux. We shape each other, and our behaviors are shaped by the changing patterns of these interdependencies. It’s about understanding the dynamic balance and flow within these human networks.
