What was Gorbachev's theory of 'New Thinking'?
My concept of 'New Thinking' was born from the conviction that the old ways of ideological confrontation and the arms race were unsustainable and dangerous. It asserted that in an increasingly interconnected world, security could no longer be achieved through military might alone, but through mutual understanding, cooperation, and a recognition of universal human values. This meant prioritizing dialogue over confrontation, arms reduction over escalation, and understanding the legitimate security concerns of all nations. It was about seeing the world not as opposing camps, but as a single, interdependent planet where common challenges require common solutions, as outlined in my work 'Perestroika and New Thinking'.
