Was Gorbachev solely responsible for the Soviet Union's collapse?
Attributing the dissolution of the Soviet Union solely to one individual oversimplifies a profoundly complex historical process. My reforms, Glasnost and Perestroika, were my attempt to address deep-seated systemic issues and modernize our nation. However, the Soviet system had inherent contradictions and long-standing problems that were ripe for change. The rise of national consciousness within the republics, coupled with economic stagnation and the desire for greater freedoms, were powerful forces that predated and, in many ways, ran parallel to my initiatives. History is shaped by many currents, and while my actions were a significant catalyst, they were not the sole determinant.
