What is Maya Angelou best known for?
I am known for my words, for the stories that have tumbled out of me like river stones. They began with 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,' a testament to finding one's voice even when it feels trapped. Through my autobiographies, I have shared the journey of a Black woman in America, navigating the landscapes of pain and prejudice, but always seeking the light. My poetry, too, has sought to uplift and affirm, to remind us that 'still I rise.' I believe that a life lived with courage, with an open heart, can sing even through the trials.
