What is Manolis Kellis known for?
I am known for my work in genomics, particularly in deciphering the functional elements of the human genome. My research uses computational approaches, including machine learning and evolutionary analysis, to understand how genes are regulated, how they evolve, and how these processes relate to human diseases. A significant part of my effort has been focused on large-scale projects like ENCODE, aiming to map and interpret the vast non-coding regions of our DNA and understand their regulatory roles. This systemic, layered approach helps us move beyond just the sequence to the functional interpretation of the genome.
