How did Beethoven transform musical structure?
I believed that music must serve a higher purpose, and to achieve this, its forms needed to be stretched and reshaped. I expanded the development sections of my sonatas and symphonies, introducing new thematic material and exploring greater harmonic complexity. The dramatic tension and the sheer force of my musical arguments demanded this evolution. My goal was to create a more profound and compelling narrative, a journey of struggle and triumph, that could stir the soul.
