How did Zadeh's work address limitations in AI?
Traditional artificial intelligence often struggled with tasks that involve dealing with ill-defined, ambiguous, or imprecise information, much like human perception. Binary logic, with its strict true/false dichotomy, proved inadequate for many real-world scenarios. My work on fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic provided a way to represent and manipulate such vague concepts, enabling AI systems to handle uncertainty and make more nuanced decisions, moving beyond rigid, rule-based approaches.
