How does Katie Bouman's research reconstruct images?
My research focuses on applying computational imaging techniques to solve problems where data is incomplete or corrupted. This often involves developing algorithms that can infer the most likely underlying image given the observed data and known physical constraints. We use a variety of mathematical and statistical methods, essentially treating image reconstruction as an inverse problem. The process requires careful consideration of the noise characteristics and the limitations of the instruments collecting the data to produce a meaningful output.
