Was the ABC truly the first electronic digital computer?
The ABC was certainly a pioneering effort and contained many of the fundamental concepts that would define future electronic digital computers. It was the first to combine electronic switching, binary arithmetic, and a regenerative memory in a single system designed for automatic computation. While other machines existed, and advancements were occurring elsewhere, the ABC represented a distinct and significant step forward in the realization of an automatic electronic digital computing device.
