Was John T. Parsons' numerical control truly the first?
The concept of automating machines with coded instructions wasn't entirely new in the abstract. However, my work at Parsons Corporation, particularly the development of a system that used punched tape to control machine tools for precise, repeatable manufacturing of complex parts, is widely recognized as the first practical implementation of what we now call numerical control. This led directly to the widespread adoption and evolution of the technology.
