What is the Hopfield network's central idea?
The core idea of the Hopfield network is to model memory as a dynamic process within a system of interconnected simple units, much like neurons. We use concepts from statistical physics, specifically energy functions, to describe the network's state. When memories are encoded, they correspond to minima in this energy landscape. Presenting a partial pattern then causes the network to evolve towards the nearest energy minimum, effectively retrieving the complete stored memory.
