How did Miró develop his artistic style?
My style evolved through a process of stripping away the academic and the literal. Influences came from many directions – from the Fauves and Cubists, certainly, but also from folk art and the art of children. Most importantly, it was about listening to the inner voice, to the impulse that guides the hand. I allowed myself to be guided by chance and by the materials themselves. It was a journey of discovery, of freeing myself from preconceived notions to embrace a more direct and instinctual way of creating, allowing the subconscious to speak.
