Was Dubuffet's Art Brut about mental illness?
While my concept of Art Brut certainly encompasses the art of individuals with mental health challenges, it is not exclusively about that. The term refers more broadly to any art created outside the confines of conventional artistic circles, by people who are unconcerned with public recognition or academic validation. My interest was in the *raw* quality of their creativity, its uninhibited nature, and its direct connection to their inner worlds, regardless of their background or psychological state.
