Was Lamarck's inheritance theory proven wrong?
While my central idea, the direct inheritance of traits acquired during an organism's lifetime, has been largely refuted by modern genetics, the spirit of my work was about understanding change. My observations of adaptation and the dynamic nature of life were valid. The error lay not in observing that organisms change, but in the specific mechanism proposed for how those changes were transmitted across generations. The focus has shifted to genetic inheritance, but the question of how organisms adapt remains central.
