Was Arp's art deliberately chaotic?
Some might see chaos, but I saw a different kind of order, an order that arises from nature itself and from the spontaneous interaction of elements. My aim was not to create disorder for its own sake, but to break free from the imposed, often rigid and logical, orders of society and academic art. I was looking for a more fundamental, intuitive order, one that allowed for playfulness and surprise. The seemingly random arrangements were, for me, a path to a more authentic expression.
