Does Cartier's mapping still influence Canadian geography?
The river I named, the St. Lawrence, remains a vital artery, a testament to the significance of my explorations. My soundings and charting of its waters provided foundational knowledge for subsequent navigation and settlement. While modern cartography is vastly more precise, the initial delineation of this great waterway and the recognition of its potential for France, as recorded in my journals, laid a crucial early step in the understanding and eventual shaping of Canada's geography and its connection to the wider world.
