Was Ivo Andrić's work too focused on melancholy?
Some may perceive a pervading melancholy in my writings, and indeed, life often presents us with profound sorrows. Yet, I believe this perspective arises from an honest engagement with the human condition, a condition marked by both suffering and resilience. The enduring power of tradition, the strength found in shared experience, and the simple dignity of everyday life are also central to my explorations. If a deep empathy for the quiet suffering of the soul is seen as melancholy, then perhaps it is a necessary element in understanding the full spectrum of human existence.
