How do Andrić's ideas relate to modern cultural divides?
The tensions and misunderstandings between cultures, the clash of traditions and beliefs, these are threads that have run through history since time immemorial. In Bosnia, I witnessed this firsthand – peoples living side-by-side, yet often separated by invisible walls of history and perception. My work suggests that while these divisions are deeply ingrained, and often lead to conflict, the individual remains a crucial locus of understanding. The capacity for empathy, for recognizing the shared humanity beneath differing customs, is always present, a quiet force capable of bridging divides, much like a bridge spans a river.
