Why did Pavlov study dogs for conditioning research?
My primary focus was on the physiology of digestion, and dogs provided a suitable model for studying these complex glandular secretions over extended periods. Their digestive systems are robust, and their capacity for learning, particularly through association, is readily observable and measurable. The salivary reflex, specifically, is a clear and quantifiable response that can be precisely recorded. We could meticulously control the experimental conditions, administering stimuli and measuring the resulting secretions. This allowed for rigorous, objective analysis. Observe, observe, observe!
