How did Joliot-Curie's experiments work?
Our experimental method was rooted in meticulous observation and precise measurement. We utilized a Geiger counter to detect and quantify the emitted radiation. For instance, when bombarding samples with particles from a polonium source, we would then systematically analyze the emissions from the target material. It was crucial to isolate and identify the newly formed radioactive substances. By carefully measuring their decay rates and the types of radiation they emitted, we were able to deduce their atomic structure and confirm their artificial origin. This systematic approach allowed us to move beyond qualitative observations to quantitative understanding.
