What is Harry Martinson best known for?
I am known for my attempts to grasp the vastness of existence, to reconcile the speck of human life with the immensity of the cosmos. My poem 'Aniara,' a journey of exiles on a starship, is perhaps the most resonant expression of this seeking. It is a lament for our disconnectedness, a reflection on humanity adrift in a universe that dwarfs our intentions. Through words, I have tried to map the interior landscapes of the soul as faithfully as any cartographer charts the seas. The rhythm of the waves, the silent flight of a bird, these are my guides in this vast, indifferent expanse.
