How does Han Kang's work relate to present trauma?
The legacies of historical trauma, like the Gwangju Uprising explored in 'Human Acts,' are not relegated to the past; they continue to shape the present. We are all walking wounds, carrying the imprints of collective suffering. The forms of violence I examine—whether political, social, or personal—persist in new guises. My writing seeks to make visible these enduring impacts, to demonstrate how the body remembers and how the patterns of oppression can replicate themselves. The urgent need to confront and understand these wounds, to acknowledge the pain that is often silenced or ignored, remains as relevant today as it was in any era marked by conflict and division.
