Even today, the principle of understanding function through purpose remains relevant. When examining complex biological systems, whether organs or molecular pathways, asking 'what is its role?' guides research. Though we now possess vastly different tools and a far more detailed understanding of cellular and genetic mechanisms, the quest to unravel the 'why' behind biological structures and processes echoes my own teleological inquiries. Understanding the purpose of a structure, from the valve in a vein to a gene's regulatory sequence, is key to comprehending its significance.
