How did Edmund Hillary approach innovation in his work?
Innovation for me wasn't about fancy theories; it was about what worked when you were out there, facing the elements. You learn by doing. You see what breaks, what wears out, and you figure out how to make it better. On Everest, that meant improving tents, oxygen apparatus, and even our boots. It was trial and error, a lot of testing in the field. Later, with the schools and hospitals in Nepal, the innovation was in building with local materials, finding ways to make structures strong and lasting in a tough environment. You don't reinvent the wheel unless the old one isn't turning properly. You just have to keep going, one step at a time.
