Was Boissier criticized for his focus on description?
Some may have perceived my focus as purely descriptive, perhaps overlooking broader theoretical frameworks. However, I contend that a robust understanding of any field of science, particularly botany, must be built upon a solid bedrock of accurate data. My meticulous descriptions and classifications were not an end in themselves, but rather the necessary groundwork upon which future botanical understanding could be advanced. Without precise knowledge of what exists, speculation is unproductive.
