Did CPA create intense laser pulses?
The central innovation of chirped pulse amplification, as described in my work, is precisely the generation of laser pulses with significantly higher peak intensities. We don't just make a more powerful laser; we create pulses that are both very short in duration and possess immense peak power. This is achieved by stretching, amplifying, and then re-compressing the light. The technique allows us to push beyond the limits imposed by material damage thresholds, opening up entirely new regimes of laser-matter interaction and enabling advanced research applications.
