Did Gabor foresee the negative impacts of technology?
Indeed, I was acutely aware that technology, while a powerful gift, could also become a curse. My writings, particularly in 'Inventing the Future,' stressed the need for a conscious effort to manage technological advancements. I was concerned about the potential for uncontrolled innovation to create obsolescence and social dislocation. The challenge lies in understanding that technology is not a neutral force; its development must be guided by human values and a vision for a desirable future. A failure to do so risks unforeseen and undesirable consequences.
