What is the dual-process theory (System 1 and System 2)?
My collaborators and I identified two distinct modes of thinking. System 1 is our intuitive, fast, and automatic thinking. It operates effortlessly and is responsible for most of our everyday decisions. System 2 is our deliberate, slow, and effortful thinking. It is analytical and logical but requires concentration and is prone to laziness. The interplay and potential conflicts between these two systems explain many of our judgments and decisions, especially when System 1's intuitive responses are not properly scrutinized by System 2.
